EXPERIENCE

1. Extensive hands-on experience with maintenance of ship board machinery including diesel engines, generators, pumps of various types, centrifuges, boilers, water desalination plants, hydraulics, cranes and other ancillary equipment.

2. Marketing and sales of Diesel Generators in Parry and Co. Ltd., ranging from 5 to 1500 KW in a highly competitive market with concerted effort on service-after-sales. A Marine Engineer’s background and application of product knowledge to servicing of customers, resulted in an increase of a yearly turnover from 4.0 million Rupees (approximately 100000 USD) to over Rupees 2 million (approx 500000 USD) during the tenure.

3. As Factory Manager with Detergents India Ltd. for three years, assumed full responsibility of turning around a sick unit with carry-forward losses of over Rupees 15 million (approximately 330000 USD). Root cause analysis, identifying core areas of concern, revamping process equipment, negotiations with Labor unions, and effective cost control measures including recovery of debts, controls over cash flow and budgets, resulted in a four fold increase in production, recovery of losses and a bonus of 18% to the staff and workers for the first time in 9 years.

4. Established own venture – Diesel Clinic – for sales and servicing of diesel generators in Bangalore, India with a net capital of Rupees 11000 (approximately USD 250) leading to a turnover of Rupees 6500000 in a period of 6 months. All sales were conducted on a commission basis with commissions of 2%. Venture shut down due to the Iraq war.

5. Returned to shipping in 1992 and have since served as a Chief Engineer on board vessels of various companies with active involvement in

- vessel inspections

- taking over of vessels

- negotiating repairs with workshops and repair yards

- assisting in purchase of spares

- finalizing and supervising dry dockings and major

repairs

6. A recent turnkey installation and commissioning of a new 960 KW Wartsila diesel generator on board the M.T. ‘Tabora’ with the vessel trading and with savings of over 700000 USD to the owners/managers. The job was undertaken with a riding gang of 4 fitters and included fabrication of the foundation, electrical works, cooling, fuel and exhaust piping, installation of accessories like coolers, mixing columns etc, and insulation including cladding of the exhaust piping.
