Marine/ Diesel Fitter, Petty Officer

Objective


Maintain and repair marine diesel engines and /or airconditioning plants,

Be a mechanician maintaining auxillary systems.


Experience


Currently in the SA Navy and have been for 12 years. The first 3 and half years were spent studying. Presently Head of Section for Propulsion Section. Responsibilities include maintaining the propulsion engines, which are MTU 16V 1163 TB 93,managing my sub-ordinates ensuring they carry out their work correctly, projecting maintenance periods and ordering all stores and spares. We have a Gas Turbine LM 2500 onboard as another means of propulsion which I have exposure too.My ship is the MEKO A200 Patrol Corvette which is fully automated therefore being the senior auxillay watchkeeper I am conversant with computer management and monitoring sytems.

Grade 12,

N2 strutural draughting,

N2 diesel trade theory,

N4 Mechanical Fitting,


Certification


Numerous practical workshop certificates in;

fitting and turning,

Aircon and Refrigeration,

Hydraulics and Pneumatics,

Welding,

Filing,

Diesel student of the year,

Qualified Artisan Trade Papers.

Safety and fire fighting courses applicable to maritime


Skils


Good managerial skills,

Can adapt easily to any situation,

Good fault finding abilities,

Can function individually or as part of a team


 


Being in the navy as afforded me the opportunity to adapt to, and embrace maritme life, customs as well as traditions.Working in or around the maritime way of life will be comfortable for me.
