Marine & Cargo Surveyor

Objective


Investigates losses involving various marine and air cargoes.

Determines nature, extent, and cause of damage to imported goods damaged in transit.

Examines export shipments to determine suitability for shipment, proper packaging, and for purposes of risk management.

Ensures that cargo is properly loaded and stowed within truck and ocean conveyances.

Ensures that cargo is properly and safely discharged and placed into safe and secure storage.

Inspects landed cargo to ascertain general condition upon discharge.

Reviews, examines, and analyzes various trade and transit documents including Bills of Ladings, Commercial Invoices, Insurance policies, Dock & Delivery receipts, Packing lists, etc.

Extensively involved in Marine Cargo Surveys of various commodities. Expertise of commodities include, but not limited to the following:



- Steel products, fruits and vegetables, perishable commodities, refrigerated cargo, grains, machinery, bulk commodities and general cargo.



- Oversaw both loading and discharge operations of various breakbulk and bulk vessels for regular liners and tramp carriers. Commodities included heavy lift, general cargo, steel products and other products.



- Continuous attendance as a Cargo Surveyor of Chilean fruits on board the vessel, including inspection of reefer records and cargo inspections – 1992 – 2006.



- Perishable products: Extensive experience on inspection of various products such as small fruits, stone fruits, sensitive produce and fruits, mangoes, garlic, onions, flower bulbs, etc.



- Small fruits: Various types of grapes, cherries and similar types of fruit.



- Stone fruits: Peaches, nectarines, kiwis, etc.



- Mangoes: All types of mangoes imported into the U.S.A. from various origins.



- Garlic: Garlic imported from South America and Asia.



- Onions: From South America.



- Flower bulbs: From Holland.



- Performed joint inspections with various parties including Importers, Importer’s Surveyors, Shippers and Cargo Underwriters representatives. Determined extent and causation of the exceptions. Have extensive knowledge about perishable products and problems associated with transportation, pre-packing as well as harvesting.
