Objective
I would like to operate and manage a marina.
Experience
In 1977, my father signed a ten year lease for a marina in Margate, NJ which is next to Atlantic City. He passed away soon after signing the lease causing me as a twenty-five year old to jump in and learn the business and to save his investment. Since that time I have accumulated a wealth of education and knowledge concerning finance, marketing, management and other business skills. These I can add to my marina experience to make your operation a successful and profitable one. The accomplishments and the things I did at On The Bay Marina are as follows:
I upgraded the entire property including painting, structural improvements, electricity, water and security;
Turned a profit in two years and recouped the entire investment in four years;
I turned the marina into a full service marina which included 4 piers, 150 slips, one bait & tackle store, two gas piers, a boat lift, an Evinrude sales store, a repair shop along with dry storage.
I closed an SBA loan of which some of the proceeds were used to become an Evinrude dealer. Along with the 4 mechanics I went to school and became certified as an Evinrude mechanic.
Created the first charter fishing fleet in the area with ten 6 man or under boats and one party boat. In conjunction with that I negotiated agreements with the Atlantic City casinos as sole supplier for their customers to charter the boats for fishing trips. I also purchased 10 rental boats for the bait and tackle shop.
Planned and executed a trade show entitled “Tackle Rama” which was held in a hall within walking distance of the marina. It was attended by representatives of all the major tackle and boating companies who exhibited and displayed their products. Some but not all of the participants were Penn Rods and Reels, Garcia, Stren Line, Shakespeare, Daiwa, Shimano, Mustad, Boston Whaler, and Hatteras Boats. This was broadcast live on the radio and had an attendance of 7,000 people.
I wrote and broadcast a daily fishing report on two different AM radio stations, “Live from on the Bay”. I also supplied the local and Philadelphia newspapers with fishing reports on a weekly basis.
I held social events for the customers such as fishing contests, picnics and safety boating courses.
