Experience
APM Terminals- 2000-2009. Safety & Security Manager and FSO for large container cargo terminal. Managed all Safety/Security functions, trained all personnel in required safety and security requirements, developed Company Safety Management System and authored Terminal Safety Manual, AIIPP, and emergency response plans. Supervised claims management with brokers and underwriters.
Sea-Land Service Inc,- Assistant Operations Manager(1991-1993). Vessel superintendent directing stevedore operations of container vessels calling at Oakland’s container terminal. Prepared pre and post shift operations reports, determined manning requirements and confirmed payroll accuracy of longshore labor. Contributed to increased productivity gains within cost budgets.
Lead Marine Manager (1994-1999). Developed operational efficiencies to increase productivity,
maintain costs, and improve safety performance. Member of terminal quality and safety committees and twice recognized as employee of the month.
Consultant and then Director of Operations, for Hawaii Pacific Lines, South Pacific Liner Service.
(1986-1991). Contributed to the business plan and implemented the operational requirements for this start up Company in the Hawaii/Polynesia container trade for a Hawaiian based Maritime and Marine Agency company. Negotiated contracts and chartered vessels, controlled a leased container fleet, prepared and filed required FMC tariffs, endorsed connecting carrier agreements, scheduled vessel and operational proformas, created sequential vessel stowage plans, and tracked vessel, agency, and stevedore’s performance standards.
Vice-President Operations for Johnson Scanstar, N.A.(1981-1985). Implemented operational procedures for the U.S. West Coast logistics, maintenance and repair, equipment control, and vessel operations for a fleet of 9 vessels calling at five West Coast Ports, Canada and Mexico. Developed and refined the operating budgets and reporting activities of four departments to overseas ship owners.
Director of Fleet Control at AMERCIAN PRESIDENT LINES, Inc.((1978-1981). Integrated deployment of vessels, by sizes, types, and capacities to trade routes served, developed schedule pro-formas, dry-docking requirements and route transitions, for a fleet of thirty-six vessels).
Norton Lilly & Co., Inc., Manager of West Coast Operations (1976 – 1978). Managed the vessel and terminal operations for various ship owner clients at all ports on the Pacific Coast, from Nanaimo B.C., to San Diego, Ca. Served as Port Captain for Showa Container Lines, Federal
Commerce and Navigation, Shipping Corporation of India, Lauritzen Peninsula Reefers, in liner services, and various tramp and charter vessel operator’s West Coast operations.
