Apr 2007 to Nov 2007 Allied Waste Services Contra Costa County

Operations Manager

Managed the daily operational demands of over 118 garbage/recycling routes. Managed a direct report staff of six route managers as well as administrative support. Directly responsible for monthly financial impact which included all safety concerns/claims, productivity, compliance of all company and Department of Transportation regulations (DOT). In charge of the hiring training and discipline of drivers and operational support staff. Maintained a positive and productive relationship with Teamsters Local 315 through weekly meetings addressing all labor concerns. Assisted in maintaining some of the highest profit margins in the company. Maintained a positive and productive safety record through behavior management which instilled a “Perform Right Not Fast” type of attitude among staff and employees.

Aug 2005 to Apr 2007 Waste Management DSTS San Leandro

Transportation Manager



Managed the daily operational and transportation demands of a transfer station that takes in between 2700 and 3600 tons of municipal solid waste per day, and hauls that material out using two shifts totaling 48 transfer trucks. Responsible for overall company safety policies, DOT intra and interstate commercial hauling regulations. Championed successful effort in reducing OSHA recordable rate by 52 percent in 2006. Led all safety meetings and helped inspire a “Safety First” attitude. Responsible for department EBIT performance and all labor concerns. Chief liaison between company management and site Teamster Local 70 and Local 6 unions. Maintained an excellent working relationship with both unions with very few problems. Lead investigator on all accidents/injuries. Served on several Accident Revue Boards in order to determine root cause and best path to prevention. Managed the drug and alcohol program.



June2003 To Aug 2005 Waste Management North bay

Fleet Optimization Manager



Charged with improving route efficiency through focused data analysis and rerouting all Lines of Business’s (LOBs) streamlining operations in all 14 of the Market Area’s districts. Headed a team of Routing Logistic Experts and Data Gathering Specialists. Spent two years rerouting the entire North Bay Market Area while being mindful of all franchise agreements, safety requirements, union constraints and four labor strikes. Direct report to the Market Area Director of Operations. Ultimately reduced total route count by 9.5 percent. Improved dispatching of Roll-Off and Container Delivery by installing GPS units on all trucks yielding a 13 percent improvement. Replaced Operations Manager at Napa facility in order to close it down and hand it off to the incoming company. Coordinated all equipment removal while continuing residential, commercial and Roll-Off collection. Held all safety meetings and investigated all accidents. Maintained excellent relationship with Engineers Local 3 and strong working relationship with Napa, American Canyon, and Vallejo city officials. Found gainful employment for all employees that wished to stay with Waste Management after the Napa divestiture. Drug and Alcohol Manager.



July 1999 To 2003 Waste Management of San Francisco

Operations Manager

Responsible for day-to-day operations of 20 Roll-Off routes and 2 Front End Loader commercial routes. Championed a safety program that involved completely changing the behavior of all employees at this site. Including Safety Stand downs, petitioning upper management for newer safer equipment, improving relations with Teamster Local 350 and inspiring employees through rewards and discipline. Within three years, this site achieved reward status by working 500 plus days without an OSHA recordable accident or injury. Increased margins by dropping customers with bad debt, increased pricing and negotiated improved disposal fees at local, non-company transfer stations. Assumed role of Maintenance Manager after loss of that person. Made light repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance keeping the fleet in top operating order. Passed two full BIT inspections.



May 1997 To 1999 Smurfit-Stone Recycling Oakland/San Jose

Plant Manager

In charge of all processing operations at Oakland and San Jose facilities. Member of the Oakland Start-up Team, which installed 8 million dollars worth of Lubo residential and commercial single stream sorting equipment for a two shift operation. Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training of over 40 Local 6 sorters and operators. Trained shipping department and assisted in the motivation of outside sales staff. Oakland facility set an all time company record of 13,000 tons processed and shipped in one month. This was accomplished with zero recordable accidents or injuries. Improved relationship between company paper mills and company processing plants in Oakland and San Jose. Improved product quality which resulted in fewer rejected loads overseas. Headed all safety meetings and maintained high morale among union employees through incentives.



Feb 1995 To 1997 Waste Management Recycle America

Shift Supervisor

Ran grave, swing and dayshift as required. Supervised 25-35 sorters on two sort lines and three balers. Assisted in maintenance needs of equipment. Ensured safety, quality and productivity. Dispatched company drivers to the Port of Oakland for export. Met with buyers for inspection and negotiated standards of quality. Headed shift safety meetings.



Jan 1994 To 1995 Valley Waste Management

Route Supervisor

Responsible for 14 routes ranging from Lafayette to Danville. Insured the highest level of safety through observation and behavioral modification. Tended to driver needs both on and off the route, and engaged customer problems on a daily basis. Trained drivers on Fully Automated Side Loader, One Pass Front End Loader, Rear End Loader, and Semi Automated Side Loader. Assisted in safety meetings and performed weekly tailgate meetings on the route.

Responsible for insuring the highest quality install at the most cost effective rate. Motivated installers for timeliness by leading by example. Assisted in job site costing and labor force demands.



Sept 1989 To 1991 Lead Technician USS Lynde McCormick

Lead Radar Technician on AN/SPG 51 C/D guided missile radar system. Fire Controlman, Petty Officer 2nd class. (E5) Responsible for the Preventative Maintenance program and general top performance of the system. Supervised four technicians insuring total battle readiness 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Scheduled required maintenance and daily watches.

Taught detailed function and troubleshooting of the AN/SPG 51 C/D guided missile radar system. Classes consisted of both new and seasoned sailors bound for sea on Adams Class Destroyers. Wrote and administered tests and quizzes. Spent many off hours with students in order to insure 100 percent graduation. Successfully brought attrition rate from 23 percent to zero during tenure.
