Experience

Engineer, retired 2002 at age 51.
I have worked aboard many ships in various positions ranging from
Third Assistant Engineer to Chief Engineer through out my career as a
Marine Engineer spanning almost 30 years.
I am familiar with most engine room operations, repairs and preventive maintenance programs. I am experienced as both a day worker and a watch stander. I am familiar with bunkering and have marine electrical experience as well as experience with many types of diesel engines and steam boilers.
I have experience with welding and burning and machine shop skills. I
possess a Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certificate and am familiar
with many types of refrigeration plants and A/C systems. I am computer literate.
I am fully STCW 95 certified.
I possess a TWIC card.
2003 until present: Chief Engineer With New Orleans Paddlewheels, Inc., aboard the M.V. Creole Queen”. The arrival of Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav and the recent economic meltdown has effectively shut the company down due to the lack of tourists in New Orleans.
Education
Calhoon Engineering School, GPA: 3.0,
Baltimore MD.
The Calhoon engineering school consisted of an intense year round
three year program, which at its focal point was Marine Engineering.
The curriculum included:
Diesel Engines, Boilers and steam propulsion, electricity,
electronics, electrical troubleshooting, automation, thermodynamics,
chemistry, pneumatics, hydraulics, ship's construction, refrigeration,
auxiliary machinery, welding, engineering writing and drawing, machine
shop, lifesaving and firefighting.
One aspect of the program included serving 1 year as an engine cadet
aboard various merchant vessels.
Upon graduation, I received a U.S.C.G. license as Third Assistant
Engineer of steam and motor vessels of any horsepower.
Certification
I hold a U.S.C.G. Chief Engineer’s License (OSV) of motor vessels of any horsepower. Also Chief Engineer (Limited Oceans) of motor vessels of any horsepower. Also First Assistant Engineer of steam or gas turbine vessels of any horsepower. Also Second Assistant Engineer of Motor Vessels of any horsepower.
