Harbormaster

The Harbormaster directs the Harbor Management program within the jurisdiction of the City of Bainbridge Island. This jurisdiction is one of the largest in the state, extending from the city's shoreline across the water to the mid-mark between Bainbridge Island and the opposite shore. The elements of the Harbor Management system include ensuring access to navigable waters for island residents and visitors, supporting safe navigation through education and maintenance of aids to navigation, maintaining marine water quality, managing access to anchoring, mooring, and public shorelines for boaters, supporting maritime commerce, derelict vessel removal, and harbor code enforcement. Additionally, the harbormaster is a commissioned officer and coordinates with the marine officer to conduct routine patrols of area waters, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and laws. The Harbormaster manages a large pool of volunteers (stewards, commissioners, flotilla captains and boaters) to implement the program, manages contracts, writes grants, makes public presentations and builds coalitions and partnerships across multiple and diverse populations. As a member of the City's Police Department, the Harbormaster is a key player with the Engineering Department's Water Resources team and the Planning Department's Shoreline Master Program.

1. July 2010 Deepwater Horizon MC 352. Logistics Supervisor: support to off-shore unit in Cocodrie Louisiana. Through Incident Management System, coordinated food, supplies, staff, equipment, transportation, drug and alcohol program, tug and barge service, trucking services and fleet support from the staging area.

2. April 2011 Speaking engagements for SEACHANGE Symposium and Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters.

3. Ongoing 2006 to present. On-call responder for marine spills.
