Jan 2010 Till Date: FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV-21 in Ghana as Mechanical Supervisor (Top Side) Duties and Responsibilities: I was based in Singapore shipyard during the final stage of completion of the FPSO (6 months) where we did the Project, Pre-commissioning, Commissioning & Accepted handover of all Mechanical equipment from projects dept including marked up drawing, software, manuals, spare parts, special tools etc & provided technical support to vendors for commissioning of various equipments till the Vessel sailed to Ghana. Present responsibilities: Supervise and carry out maintenance activities in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System, ensuring all maintenance related activities are carried out to the highest standards. All test and inspection routines required by the PMS are completed & Proper records are maintained. Maximize the availability of plant and equipment and optimize control of spares. Ensure that instructions given by the Maintenance Superintendent are executed and that they are kept informed of progress in all work under their supervision, including the status of spare parts, stores, consumables and repairs. Liaise and cooperate with the OIM and other departments, ensuring that they are made aware of maintenance activities. Ensure the Permit to Work (PTW) system is adhered to and that all isolations to plant and machinery are in compliance with the MODEC Isolation Philosophy (JSA). Ensure that all maintenance personnel, service contractors, and personnel involved in operations under the control of the Maintenance Department are provided with adequate & suitable information to carry out their work in a safe and responsible manner. Participate in the effective monitoring, audit, review of management systems, procedures & to contribute to their further development where appropriate. Ensure that all maintenance personnel are familiar with MODEC HSE policies & understand their emergency response duties & are aware to follow the FPSO Waste Management Plan. Participate in the investigation of accidents and incidents, formulate reports and provide corrective actions as appropriate. Promoting the Multi-skilled Concept & carry out any additional tasks allocated by the Maintenance Superintendent. Knowledge of the MODEC Maintenance Philosophy, AMOS maintenance system, Safety Critical Elements (SCE's) Ensure the safe and efficient functioning of emergency plant, equipment & machinery. Manage the maintenance and records of safety critical elements and ensure performance standards required by the Verification scheme with respect to plant and machinery are met. Provide the OIM with advice and information in an emergency and assist in the coordination of emergency response.



Nov 2007 to May 2009: Chevron Malongo Offshore. I was in charge of 5 Platforms & handling a Maintenance crew of 12 Technician. My job involved Providing mentoring and coaching assistance to develop national technicians, where I had to Supervise & carrying out maintenance activities on all rotating/static equipment according to plan in order to assure the maximum equipment availability respecting all internal maintenance procedures, best-practices and follow all safety regulations and procedures. Prepare work permits required for each activity as per the Permit to Work system Cold work, Hot work, Confined space entry permit, Inter phase activity related to platform activities. Lock out Tag our prior to start the job & ensure toolbox talks are completed for each critical work activity. Follow-up Gas Turbine repair and maintenance activities for all the different types and models of Gas turbines and their accessories at company site & to carryout various maintenance activities of gas Turbines as required in trouble shooting, resolution, guide to resolve Turbine related problems. Participate in implementation & follow-up of Turbine condition monitoring system. Executing detailed scheduling of rotating equipment maintenance according to maintenance plan, workload, manpower availability to the company procedures and priorities set by the maintenance operation superintendent, checking availability of materials & ensure the withdrawal. Allocating works orders to executors & endorsing work feedback and close out work orders in the maintenance database. Using Enterprise One & eProcurement Login, playing an important role in implementing the centralized maintenance plan by providing vital inputs and feedback pertaining to the job and materials planning.

July 2006 to Oct 2007: FPSO Falcon & FPSO Kuito: Job Responsibilities: Maintain, repair and adjust all mechanical equipment onboard the FPSO, including Operation and maintenance of all rotating equipment. Maintenance and troubleshooting of gas turbine-driven equipment, such as gas compressors, power generators and booster pumps. Provide mechanical support for centrifugal compressors Dresser rand & Cooper Bessemer. Water Injection pumps Gas turbine driven Sulzer and Weir. Seawater pumps, Centrifugal pumps, Oil transfer pumps, reciprocating & Rotary type Instrument Air compressors Ingersoll-Rand. Hydraulic & Mechanically driven Cranes (Unit & Weatherford) Various kinds of valves Oilfield and Petrochemical related. Heat Exchangers Air and Water-cooled type, Chemical pumps. Also maintain facility safety equipment like fire fighting equipment, emergency supplies, survival capsules & navigational aids. Joined final construction activities in Singapore. Participated in commissioning and start up of HP gas compressors for injecting the gas into the wells at the rate of 250 bars. Worked with vendors service engineers & achieved desired result with the help of continues efforts through team work in the multicultural environment. Further carried out routine maintenance as per vendor’s recommendations, maintained and analyzed log sheets for optimum smooth operations of all equipment & machined spare parts for all equipment on board as & when required.

Aug 2003 to June 2006: SHELL Iran Offshore, Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning project, on their Soroosh & Nowrooz fields. Job Responsibilities: My duties were to monitor & assist the Construction / Commissioning contractors on behalf of SHELL, both in the yard during erection & offshore stage. This developed into taking on commissioning activities entirely as the contractor disengaged from the project, working right to the production phase then into the Maintenance department. My duties also included coaching of Iranian staff & Provide technical support to vendors for commissioning of various equipments. Carried out preventive maintenance of major static and rotary equipments for the smooth production of offshore oil and gas, as per vendor’s specifications. Condition monitoring, vibration checks and alignment checks with electronic alignment device. Documentation through computerized maintenance management system record & update equipments maintenance history, spare parts procurement then report to my Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer. Also maintain facility safety equipment like fire fighting equipment, emergency supplies, survival capsules & navigational aids. Hydro testing of Vessels, Exchangers & Pipelines. Machining of various spares for all equipment in the Plant. Welding & Gas cutting done in emergency cases. Well versed in implementation and adherence to the Shell Permit to Work System (PTW) and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards.

Jan 2002 to July 2003: Cliff Kumar Engineering. Job Responsibilities: Worked in the Fabrication & Mechanical workshop, supervising & working on Fin Fan & Shell type Heat exchangers tube welding & Retubing. Welding Gurders for overhead Cranes, Pipeline jobs, Request materials & tools for the maintenance & repair of all types of field equipment.

Feb 1995 to Nov 2001: Dubai Petroleum Company. Energy Service International. Onshore as well as Offshore & on their FSO. Job Responsibilities: Carry out Mechanical maintenance & servicing plants facilities on the Complex. The work includes preventive & breakdown maintenance of power plants, gas turbine, pumps, air compressors, diesel engines, generators, alternators, vessels, tanks, valves, water plant with various pumps, fire fighting equipment, various pipelines, gas plant & utilities. Maintenance & repair of Solar Centaur 50, Taurus 60, Saturn, Mars, Garret, Rolls Royce and GE frame 3 Gas turbines & turbine-driven equipment, such as gas compressors & power generators, which includes condition monitoring, early fault identification & site preparation for extensive servicing / replacement activities of turbines & associated equipment. Reports on Machinery Condition, with basic ability to troubleshoot on all types of mechanical oilfield equipment consistent with the offshore oil & gas industry. Carry out Mechanical overhauls on rotating machinery such as Field Cranes, Diesel engines, Pumps, Fin Fan & Shell type Heat exchangers Fin Fan Coolers & rotary compressors. Review inventories of spare parts, maintains adequate stocks of spare parts & initiate issue requisitions.

Oct 1993 to Jan 1995: Abu Dhabi Oil Company. Mubarraz Island, Offshore. Job Responsibilities: Carried out corrective and preventive maintenance of major static and rotary equipments. Job involves Alignments, Overalls of major pumps, gear boxes, compressors, engines, Dresser-Rand & Ingersoll-Rand Gas Injection Compressors, various pumps including Loading pumps, Turbines, Generators, Changing various types of seals etc. Machining various parts of all Oil field equipment. While working with the Service Engineer of Dresser-Rand on the Reciprocation Compressor with rated gas discharge pressure of 7500 PSI. I have machined the drive shaft of the out Board Rotor Journal on the Delepena boring machine to a very close tolerance without removing the shaft from the gas compressor, than machined a false sleeve which was shrunk fit to the shaft., this was to upgrade the loading capacity of the Gas compressor.

Job Responsibilities: Joined the company from the Commissioning time and was rated as a lead Machinist in the Organisation, I was specialised in Hot Tapping in the plant, Metalising shafts & then machining them to very close tolerances, Valve grinding, Retubing Heat Exchangers Balancing of Impellers, Rotors, Fans, Pullies, etc. Was also involved in annual shutdown. Worked on all machines in the machine shop.

Skils


Project /Pre-commissioning/Commissioning: Responsible to develop in detailed Pre-commissioning preparation activities water flushing, air-blowing, re-instatement, tightness test, inserting, fire water, deluge system functional test, flare header in service, Fuel oil & gas, air, & steam utilities in service, rotating equipment functional tests, Vessels & Column inspection loading of catalysts and chemicals, supporting to vendor activities & Final inspection before box-up. Replace all control valves with shim or spool, remove all blind from check valves. After completion of cleaning activities install them in respective positions. Preparation of pre functional check, P & ID punch list Check, Ensure safety on site is in conformity with Project procedures so pre-commissioning activities are safe and liaise with Company HSE on site. Technical review in detail of all Contractor Pre-commissioning engineering documents. Supervise Contractor Pre-commissioning activities on site both onshore and offshore & monitor the schedule progress. Close out of Punch points, test run with nitrogen, cold dry out, hot dry out to remove moisture from system, vacuuming, Inventorying of hydrocarbons, removal of nitrogen through vent to flare, Dry out of hydrocarbons. Commissioning: Perform technical tasks assigned by Project Commissioning Superintendent, related to the preparation and execution of the commissioning and start up activities. Executing detailed scheduling of rotating & static mechanical equipment according to maintenance plan, workload, manpower availability. Ability to identify piping specs, gaskets, bolts and nuts, valves etc. and able to carryout the work on all the piping. Ensures safe execution of all commissioning activities as per the Permit To Work system (Cold work, Hot work, Confined space entry permit, Inter phase activity related to platform activities) and ensure toolbox talks are completed for each critical work activity, work with vendors on arrival at site to witness compressors gearboxes & turbines alignment then do the performance test. Accept handover of all Mechanical equipment from projects dept including marked up drawing, software, manuals, spare parts special tools etc & provide input to work scope, planning activity, prepare material requisitions and ensure their withdrawal. Assure activities relevant to machinery such as motor run-in, machinery run-in are according to stated procedures. Maintenance of Columns Vessels & Exchangers: Opening of manhole after proper isolation, removal of a damaged columns, tray, caps, valves Demister repair or replacement of the same. Cleaning by chemical, hydro jetting, brushing and air Shell test/Tube test, inspections, internal installation, box-up are carried out according to procedures. Different types of valves Gate valves, globe valves, butterfly valves (shut-down valves) motor operated valves, control valves and safety valves. Replace of upper and lower journal of M.O.V. gland packing, seat ring etc. Level Glass cleaning, Arresting of steam leakage by replacing gaskets & Hot Bolting. Maintain daily activity logs for projects and issue a close out statement after completion. Ensure all equipment is protected and preserved for the sailing period with specific checks for voyage to be documented. After completion of works ensure feedback and close work orders in the maintenance database, produce the certificates, duly signed by involved parties, then hand over to the certification engineer & check all relevant documentation (e.g. P&ID, PFD, E&I drawings, etc) are updated. Attending to morning meeting with client to communicate day activities & Attending to evening commissioning team meeting to report day activities and next days planning.



Rotating & Static Maintenance: To supervise a team and provide Mechanical expertise coordinate & participate in the preventive, corrective & troubleshooting mechanical maintenance activities of plant equipment, identify & isolate faulty components on rotating & static mechanical equipment, Gas Turbine and Compressor according to plan in order to assure the maximum equipment availability respecting all internal maintenance procedures and all the safety regulations. Assuring that maintenance plans are fully compliant with production targets & long term production system availability and reliability. Participate in the planning, scheduling & execution of shutdown & major overhaul maintenance activities & assist the section head in establishing priorities, making improvements on work methods and to participate in evaluating modification proposals, failure analysis and unscheduled shutdowns, also ensure that the shutdown maintenance jobs are carried out within the scheduled time frame. Follow-up the Gas Turbine repair and maintenance activities for all the different types and models of Gas turbines such as Solar Centaur 50, Taurus 60, Saturn, Mars, Garret, Rolls Royce and GE frame 3 Gas turbines & turbine-driven equipment, such as gas compressors & power generators and their accessories at company site & to carryout various maintenance activities of gas Turbines as required in trouble shooting, resolution, guide to resolve Turbine related problems. Participate in implementation & follow-up of Turbine condition monitoring system. Static equipment inspections required cleaning, internal installation, box-up carried out according to procedures. Before starting cleaning activities isolate all instruments, replace all control valves with shim or spool, remove all blind, and remove internals from check valves. After completion of cleaning activities install them in respective positions. In the mean time sending PSV’s for bench test, Orifices/Compact orifices for race facing to box them up after cleaning activities. To direct & participate in performing Condition Monitoring of Rotating equipment and advice on the maintenance schedule based on the analysis & update the equipment data, history & Maintain records in the system. Organize the safe consignment of parts removed from the main equipment for refurbishment & to inspect the refurbished material, to evaluate equipment performance problems and to suggest modification / available new technology to reduce overall maintenance cost, also interface and coordinate with other sections in sorting out equipment problems and maintenance activities. To prepare the list of spares, tools & other material required for the maintenance jobs and issue the Purchase/Material requisitions for the Section Head approval & to inspect and confirm that the specifications are in line with the requirement of the received ‘stock Materials. To comply with Health, Safety, Environment Management System and promote awareness of its use among the staff conducting Toolbox meetings with subordinates for discussing safety methods of completing job tasks. Contribute towards achieving oil production targets. Provide on Job Training to meet Competency Based Training.


 


I have worked on 2 different FPSOs before & they are FPSO Falcon & FPSO Kuito in Singapore & Angola for SBM.

At present working on FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV-21 in Ghana, as Mechanical Supervisor. Preparation of pre functional check, P&ID punch list Check. Ensure that the safety Permit to Work and isolation system is in place and attend to project HAZID's / Risk Assessments. Review and approve multi-discipline commissioning procedures, ensure compliance with project standards, specifications, procedures, environmental and quality requirements, Ensure safety on site is in conformity with Project procedures so pre-commissioning activities are safe and liaise with Company HSE on site. Assist in the preparation and follow up of the preservation programs. This was done before we could sail to Ghana.

After reaching Ghana when the Subsea job was completed we had to do the Pre-commissioning & Commissioning again for the Test run of the Top side plant. We then gradually started the production in mid-November 2010 & by May 2011 we were in full Production of 95,000 barrels per day.

After the Commissioning phase was over my responsibilities changed as a Mechanical/ Maintenance Supervise and had to carry out maintenance activities in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System, ensuring all maintenance related activities are carried out to the highest standards. Participate in the effective monitoring, audit site, review of management systems, procedures & to contribute to their further development where appropriate.
