Research Project: Impact of price competition on Warid Telecom (Waridtel)

The Abu Dhabi-based Warid Telecom operates the largest cell phone network in Pakistan. At the time I conducted my research, the industry was at a peak of price competition. Warid’s response to this business environment was to downsize its staff and to give more importance to price than the operating quality of its network. This resulted in a great deal of dissatisfaction amongst the staff and a loss of almost one million customers. Subsequently there were major shake-ups in the senior management of both Warid in Pakistan and at the Abu Dhabi parent.
