September 2006 – May 2010 Sause Brothers Ocean Towing
• Sailed as Mate aboard tugs
• Familiar with all aspects of rigging/making/breaking tow
July - September 2006 Oregon State University - Research Vessel Wecoma
• Sailed as AB and Mate in a temporary position
• Operated oceanographic winches
• Organized and directed graduate student deck crews (this was not as scary as it sounds!)
• Calculated Ship’s Deviation Table
• Inspected/maintained lifesaving/firefighting equipment, watertight doors and fittings
• Observed weather, drafted/sent NOAA Synoptic weather reports
1997 - 2006 United States Coast Guard
• Commanded both ashore and afloat. In this role, I was directly responsible for all administrative processes, training, and safety of diverse groups of 10-30 men and women
• Responsible for safe and successful search and rescue, maritime law enforcement and marine environmental regulation missions
• Prosecuted largest cocaine seizure in Pacific Northwest (2.5 tons of cocaine)
• Area of Operational Responsibility was primarily Washington/Oregon waters, but transited the entire West Coast several times
• Transited 7,800 nautical miles from Houma, Louisiana to Port Townsend
• Administered annual operating budgets of as much as $120K
• Small Arms Instructor
• Coxswain qualified on 8 different types of standard boats
• Deck Watch Officer qualified on 6 different classes of cutters
• Accountable for physical plants of as much as $7M
• Trained and qualified deck watch officers, boat crews, and law enforcement officers
• Senior Enlisted Advisor to Commanders, both ashore and afloat
• Led a Chief’s Mess of five other Senior Enlisted personnel, both ashore and afloat
• Conducted Operational Tests and Evaluation of the 85-foot Fast Patrol Craft. Accountable to Coast Guard Headquarters for testing and evaluating vessel
• Attended Diversity Summit II in New London, CT
• Only enlisted person to attend 2003 Pacific Area Maritime Homeland Security War Game
