• Managed all materials and materials services for this multi-national 26 shipyard ship and floating rig building firm with spend in excess of 1 Billion. Government, Oil and Gas and Commercial shipyards. Purchase responsibility from MRO to complicated EPC contracts up to 60 million in value. Contracts were a backbone of the work. Sixty-five (65) decentralized indirect reports and twelve (12) centralized direct reports. Shared Service, Balanced Scorecard, Strategic Sourcing and Business Process Re-engineering Section Leader. Strategic Sourcing Initiative resulted in contract savings of 20.5 percent or 6.7MM on 37.8MM spend. Subsequent Strategic Sourcing wave resulted in 15% savings. MRO program resulted in a “best in class” comprehensive integrated supply contract that netted 7MM from process improvement and acquisition cost reduction.

• P & L responsibility as marine engineering and naval architecture consultants to marine trade. Examples included feed design, conceptual, functional and production design, overall project management and specialized assignments. Contracted by Columbia University to design and specify a modular transportable wire line jack-up shallow water drill rig. The unit was completely IMO cargo container transportable in 9 forty foot containers.

• High profile, world class, custom aluminum sport fishing yachts from 36 to 90 feet in length. Direct responsibility for all WIP, engineering, R&D and new model/feature developments. Direct oversight of vessel construction in two foreign shipyards located in Holland and Chile. Developer of the Chilean business connection and brought on source from start up to sustained U.S. deliveries. General work included coordination of contract specifications and drawings, new design, customer driven feature design, general construction, change control, project management, testing, acceptance, overseas transportation, client interaction and acceptance.

• Developed new 302CID-300HP Ford hybrid engine based on a cross between a Windsor and Cleveland engine design. Cornered the market on a unique cylinder head to build this engine by buying all the engine heads in the worldwide Ford Motor Company inventory. Managed all technical and business negotiations with Nissan Motors LTD Japan for the sale of a newly designed propulsion unit developed in joint effort with Swedish company.

• Primary P & L responsibility. Designed a successful new marketing program that increased engine sales 120 percent. Dealer participation increased from approximately 50 dealers to over 200 active and stocking Dealers. Negotiated many new OEM relationships with boat builders and opened some doors previously closed to the company due to earlier owner/relationship problems. Established purchase and marketing agreement with General Motors allowing company to build 305, 350, 454 and 502 C.I.D. engines. Design and purchasing oversight of metal stampings, green sand castings, turnings and stainless steel investment castings. Lead negotiator with the Swedish Government and the inventing Swedish company to acquire the exclusive North American distribution rights to very unique marine propulsion outdrive that would turn sideways to the transom of a boat allowing greater steering control.

• Used process re-engineering techniques to solve production-engineering problems with each of the 6 active boat lines producing an average of six (6) boats per day. Efficiency increased dramatically and direct labor reduced from 230 people to 155 people. Production went up from four-(4) boats per day to seven-(7) boats a day under the new program. Oversaw all aspects of the manufacturing process including Production Engineering, Production, QC, QA and Shipping.
