Dear Recruitment Coordinator,
I bring 25+ years of combined experience as a generalist in occupational health, safety, environmental health, and industrial hygiene. This background includes a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and work toward a Master of Science in Occupational Health & Safety. Most recently my focus has been in healthcare disaster/emergency preparedness and safety including chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) response / HAZMAT decontamination operations readiness.
In short, there are few jobs more dangerous than serving on an aircraft carrier, nor few responsibilities more demanding. Safety, security and preparedness are paramount toward conducting sustained operations at sea. This translates into the ability to perform under intense pressure with limited resources to accomplish the mission and return everyone home to their friends and families safely and whole. In non-military terms assuring workers and the environment are protected in such a way as to achieve 100% accountability while assuring cost effective project and systems management.
Two special qualifications earned in the Navy were that of a Surface Warfare (SW) Specialist and an Aviation Warfare (AW) Specialist. Not only did these special qualifications expose me to every aspect of war fighting operations in these two disciplines they provided a deep insight into the minute details of safety, occupational exposure, security and overall preparedness that personnel faced at every level in their jobs such during operations such as engineering plant, refueling, and ship construction/repair. This also included understanding everything from the impact radio frequency energy hazards to respiratory exposures when doing aircraft preservation operations. Furthermore, these two qualifications in addition to my technical training also formed the basis for success when establishing the Environmental Health Survey and Industrial Hygiene Survey Programs to support the operational readiness objectives of the U.S. 7th Fleet.
Overall experience has been very diverse and has served to be both the building blocks and the synergy that has helped me achieve a great deal of success in the areas of disaster preparedness, public health, environmental health, occupational health, industrial hygiene, general safety-security programs and training management for a host of complex and integrated operations.
