Handling of lines. When boat comes alongside the dock, get lines over in the correct order that varies
depending on the type of dock and tides.discuss the line order with the mate on watch before arriving.
Off-loading laundry, taking on potablewater, taking off garbage, take on dry stores
Clean all areas of the boat (exterior) that can’t be completed while underway, clean the
bridge, During low visibility times, must help stand watch on the bridge. help in galley if needed,
do engine rounds look for any leaks or other discrepancies inside the engine
room, vessel round (fire check in which you physically walk around the vessel—go into storage areas,
etc., check steering room and the steering mechanism to make sure there are no leaks or other discrepancies. Stand bridge watch at night that entails looking out for aid to navigation, hazards to navigation, Also monitor radar closely. Also get food, coffee, items needed, etc. for the Captain during watch since they cannot leave the Bridge. Safety duties: Holds a position on the ship’s Emergency Station Bill. Must perform requirements of Emergency Station Bill for both drills and actual emergencies to include fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, and spill response.

Handled lines to moor vessel to wharves, tie up vessel to another vessel, or rig towing lines. Sweep and
wash decks, using broom, brushes, mops, and fire hose. Lower and mans lifeboat in case of emergencies.

dredges. Paints lifeboats, decks, and superstructure of vessel, using brush. Lubricates machinery and
equipment. Splice and repairs cables and ropes, using hand tools. Examine cables that holds vessels in
tow and tighten cables to ensure vessels are snug.
