Deck Officer - Master Mariner

Objective

I have over 18 years experience in all ranks up to and including Chief Officer on deep sea and coastal tankers, ro-ro ferries, passenger ships, super yachts, tall ships, bunker barges, dry cargo vessels and government patrol vessels.I am now looking for a Trainee Pilots position or a shore based position within the marine industry.

Experience

I believe that in my career at sea I have gained experience of many different types of work on many types of vessel whilst in dry-dock or serving at sea worldwide. I feel that I have proved myself to be motivated, conscientious and adaptable, willing and able to take responsibility and work closely with crews and management. I work well under pressure, can perform equally well in a team or on my own, and I have a professional approach to all my duties. I also have comprehensive references that are all very favourable. I also have lots of ship handing experience on coastal tankers and government patrol vessels and I have written testimonials to verify this.

GENERAL BACKGROUND AND TRAINING.

Scottish Executive- Feb 2007 to present.

I have recently been working as First Officer and Chief Officer aboard government enforcement vessels. The work includes managing 15 crew and officers and ensuring the maintenance is done to the correct standard. It also includes but is not limited to the following-

The day to day running of the vessel.

In charge of deck operations.

Ships Security Officer.

Defect reporting.

Crew Management.

Training of crew.

Taking water and arranging fuel.

Investigating non-conformities.

Bridge watch keeping.

Medical Officer.

Administrative duties.

Meteorological Officer.

Garbage Management Officer.

British Petroleum- late 2004 to Feb 2007

I left yachting and came home to start a family. I worked on new oil tankers as Second Officer, First Officer and Chief Officer. This offered a better work/ leave ratio. I gained a good amount of ship handling experience during this period because the ship was coming in and out of port daily. The work was very intensive and pressurised.

Camper & Nicholson- 2004.

I worked as Chief Mate on ‘Thunder Gulch’. This was a 50 metre ‘Amels’ motor yacht. I oversaw the refit in Barcelona and successfully brought it out of the yard to Monaco. From there the yacht was chartered for a busy summer season with very short turnarounds. The yacht chartered around the French and Italian Riviera and she was fully ISM and ISPS compliant.

Whitship Management- 2001 to 2003

I resumed working on tankers due to better conditions and promotion prospects. I worked as Second Officer and Chief Officer.

P&O Ferries (Irish Sea)- 1999 to 2001

I worked as Second Officer on several of their vessels and also on a new build and dry dock program in Japan for their new super-ferry

P&O / Princess Cruises- 1997 to 1999

I worked on large cruise liners in a very customer based company serving as Third Officer and Second Officer. There I gained a great deal of experience handling large twin propeller and twin engine tenders. I also worked for a short time with the Fleet Safety Officer at P&O Cruises.

Royal Fleet Auxiliary- 1991 to 1997

I successfully completed my officer cadetship in 1995 and gained a Chief Mate’s Certificate of Competency. I worked worldwide on their vessels.
