Crew Member / Deckhand

Objective


I would like to work as a crew member of deckhand on a deep water vessel, preferably in a warm climate.



I have 18 years experience of working all aspects of fishing boats out of Newlyn, Cornwall, and am now ready to take my career to the next level.


Experience


Self-employed share fisherman, Newlyn, 1987-2009 fishing up to 100 miles from the coast in all weather & being responsible for the safety of myself and others on board. I have been a watchkeeper, cook and also carried out all aspects of boat safety and maintenance.



Construction Industry as Builder's Mate and Roofer 1983-1987 working on various private housing projects.



Strip Plant Tube Mill Operator 1980-1983 producing copper piping for domestic & commercial plumbing work.



BIT Gatherer/Glass Blower 1976-1980 working as part of a team turning molten glass into various wine glasses, decanters etc.



I have learnt to be very patient, observant and am able to work well under pressure. I also react quickly to threatrening situations at sea.


Education


Foley College, West Midlands 1973-1976 studying a general construction course including plumbing, painting and decorating skills.



I attended The Grange School, Stowerbridge, West Midlands, where I completed my secondary education.


Certification


Efficient Deckhand Certificate 2010 including ENG1 Medical Certificate.



General Construction Skills Certificate.



First Aid Certificate, St John Ambulance. Sea Survival, Helicopter Survival, Firefighting at Sea and Safety Awareness at Sea Certificates.

All aspects of Watchkeeping and safety at sea.



General Construction, Roofing/Plumbing and Painting Skills.



Glassblowing Skills.


 


I enjoy angling, building model aeroplanes, camping, walking and outdoor pursuits in my spare time.
