Objective


To work as an Officer on a Polar Icebreaker / Research Vessel or LNG Tanker or a Bulk Freighter. I wish to use my 25 years experience as a licensed Captain and Deck Officer, who has worked on Ice breakers, Bulk Freighters and :Passenger Vessels, during some of the most extreme weather conditions around the world.


Experience


Sailing Work Experience

November 2005 – Present working for Edison Chouest Offshore

Worked as 1st, 2nd & 3rd Mate onboard the ARSV Laurence M. Gould 1599 Tons 230’ x 56’. Working in the Antarctic, doing science and holding station, and have worked on the D. Masters and (2) Ishman cruises doing coring samples using the Box core, Mega Core and Casting Core. Worked 3 LTER's cruises doing deep water CTD's, and net trawls and fishing Expeditions. Duties include Route Planning from the Weddell Sea to Marguerite Bay; Supervised loading and discharging cargo operations, Vessel Security Operation, Navigation Safety Inspections and conducting Safety Meetings and completing ISM Forms taking part of USCG Inspections and ISM audits. Additional experience making North & South bound trips from Punta Arenas, Chile to Fourchon, LA through the Panama Canal making lockage’s and the inside Chilean passage; Assisted in docking and undocking procedures and crossing the Antarctic Circle several times.



February 1997 to 2002:

Worked as Captain aboard the M/V Winstar 2,803 GT 332’ x 74’ Passenger/Casino vessel for Riverboat Services Inc., and Harrah’s East Chicago. Duties: In charge of the safe navigation and docking of the vessel during 8 to 12 hr shifts with 3 -4 trips per watch. Responsible for 4250 Passengers and Crew onboard; Conducted weekly USCG

Drills, Took part in Quarterly USCG Inspections; Administrative duties, included payroll for marine department, USCG and IGC Indiana Gaming Commission forms, keeping track of sea time and recertification of IBA employees. Provided supervision and maintenance programs, conducted weekly safety meeting, attended supervisor meetings with Casino personnel. IBA Instructor (Inflatable Buoyant Apparatus) to casino personnel trained over 500 persons.



June 1978 to September 1996:

I have worked as Captain and First Class Pilot for Inland Lakes Management / National Gypsum Company, hauling bulk products of cement, and fly ash. I have worked for 18 winter seasons upon the Great Lakes, in extreme ice conditions, as a Merchant Officer and Pilot and 5 seasons as Captain. I have worked in extreme temperatures well below zero Fahrenheit and working in 10 / 10 coverage with ice several feet thick. I have operated vessels with the assistance of USCG and Canadian icebreakers on the Great Lakes, and worked in a convoy though the ice when only one lane was open. I was responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel upon the Great Lakes and their connecting tributary river systems of the Detroit, St. Clair, St. Mary’s Rivers and part of the St. Lawrence Seaway System through the Welland Canal. I have worked approximately 5 yrs as Captain, 4 years as 1st Mate, 5yrs as 2nd Mate and 4 years 3rd Mate. Included is a list of vessels that I have served on and what capacity:

Worked as Captain/Mate docking and lockage of vessels at 23 different ports though out the U.S. and Canada; Supervised loading and discharging cargo operations, ballast transfer procedures and fueling operations, Radio Officer and RADAR Observer; Conducted weekly USCG Drills, responsible for supplies and maintenance programs, vessel payroll, discharges, chart corrections, safety procedures, customs forms and other administrative duties and including alcohol testing,.

I wrote the Class for Visual Communications, produced student handouts and PPP. I Worked with Safety Department in updating Safety Handbook.
