NOAA / DEPT. OF COMMERCE : Norfolk, VA. / Seattle, WA – March 2002 to March 2008 Served as Chief Engineer aboard diesel electric T-AGOS # 15 (R/V Ka’Imimoana), and diesel electric T-AGOS # 3 (R/V Hi’Ialakai), T-AGS (Ronald Brown) which supported Tsunami and TAO buoy installation and servicing as well as marine sanctuary diving and mapping operations throughout the Pacific Ocean, as well the Atlantic Hurricane mapping and hurricane preseason operations. Electrical: Maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, retrofit of shipboard prime mover systems / Operation maintenance, repair of 2.4 – 4.5 megawatt diesel-electric a/c & d/c control rooms
Propulsion: Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) a/c & d/c electric direct drive systems / Controlled Pitch Propeller (CPP) direct drive systems / Ulstein Z-drive and Steerprop DP 1 & 2 systems / Standard pneumatic engine control systems
Stability: Weight, ballasting, fuel burn and ballasting before, during, after voyages
Cargoes: Familiar with the handling of all oilfield types of combustibles, corrosives, bulk products
Management: Manage personnel, interview and hiring, training, payroll, annual budgeting, HazMat ops, contracting of outside personnel, handling supply lines
Refrigeration: (HVAC) Maintenance, repair, operation of R-22, R-134a, R-404 air & chill water units up to 110 ton (multi-stage systems) also shipboard laboratory super freeze systems to -70 F.
