Apr 2008AS CHIEF ENGINEER I AM THE TECHNICAL MANAGER IN-CHARGE OF ALL LOGISTICS AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS AND THEIR MANIFESTATIONS ONBOARD.
I AM IN-CHARGE OF THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT AND ORGANIZATION, ENGINEERING OPERATIONS AND EQUIPMENT ONBOARD OVER $120M SHIP AND HAS AUTHORITY OVER DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL.
THE SCOPE OF MY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES:
I) EFFICIENT COMMERCIAL OPERATION OF THE VESSEL:
PLANNING AND SCHEDULING OF VOYAGES AND MAINTENANCE/REPAIR OPERATIONS.
ENSURING THAT VOYAGE PREPARATION AND VOYAGE EXECUTION IS CARRIED OUT IN AN EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVE MANNER. PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR NAVIGATION IN SPECIAL AREAS AND CONDITIONS AND ENSURE THAT CARGO OPERATIONS ARE CARRIED OUT IN COMPLIANCE WITH TERMINAL RULES AND CHARTERER’S CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS.
II) MAINTENANCE OF THE VESSEL:
COMPLIANCE WITH COMPANY’S PLANNED MAINTENANCE SYSTEM, ENSURING SEAWORTHINESS AND OPERATIONAL READINESS OF THE VESSEL AT ALL TIMES.
SUPERVISION, INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE OF ALL EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY ONBOARD.
ORGANIZING, ESTABLISHING AND IMPLEMENTING EFFECTIVE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR PROCEDURES.
PREPARING THE VESSEL FOR INSPECTIONS AND SURVEYS ROUTINELY CARRIED OUT BY THE PORT AUTHORITIES AND OIL MAJORS OF THE WORLD.
III) SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION:
SAFE, ECONOMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE OPERATION OF SHIP’S BUSINESS IN COMPLIANCE WITH COMPANY’S, LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS AND BEST INDUSTRY PRACTICES.
ENFORCE CODE OF SAFE WORKING PRACTICE & GOOD SEAMANSHIP PRACTICES.
CARRY OUT RISK ASSESSMENT TO REDUCE HIGH RISK SITUATIONS.
ENFORCEMENT OF COMPANY’S SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
IV) EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
ENSURING EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND ASSIST THE MASTER IN EXECUTING HIS OVERRIDING AUTHORITY AND PROVIDING THE LOGISTIC SUPPORT TO THE SHORE SUPERINTENDENTS AND BUSINESS MANAGERS TO DEAL WITH EMERGENCY SITUATIONS PERTAINING TO LIFE, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT. -
