Chief Engineer

Objective

I have been in the Merchant Marine Fleet for approximately 10 years and I am looking to take my career in a new direction. I have accomplished everything that I can at sea, having sailed as a Chief Engineer, and now I am looking for a shore side position or something that would be for missions of less duration, where I can use the skills that I have learned. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering as well as a minor in Environmental Sciences. I would like to be able to use my environmental engineering skills as well.

Experience

16 July 2006 - 27 August 2006

Chief Engineer aboard the USNS EFFECTIVE for Maersk Lines, Ltd. I was in charge of the engineering department on the vessel. I was responsible for the daily upkeep of every system in the engineering department. I supervised the first assistant engineer, third assistant engineer and two unlicensed engineers in the maintenance and repairs of all engineering systems onboard the vessel. I communicated daily with the Captain and the office as to the operational status of the equipment onboard. Some additional duties included the following: ensure all regulations, policies and procedures are enforced at all times, manage all

engine department overtime, evaluate the performance of all crew members in the engine department, schedule all preventative maintenance, operate the vessel's automation system, manage the vessel's repair parts, oversee and assist with inventories, report ship configuration changes and maintenance configuration changes for the vessel, order spare parts and consumable supplies, operate all

shipboard equipment, supervise repair activities performed by outside sources such as shipyards and individual vendors, maintain records and logs, and train shipboard personnel in the safe operation and use of installed equipment, power tools and hand tools.

15 March 2003 - 21 April 2006

First Assistant Engineer aboard the USNS LOYAL for Maersk Lines, Ltd. I sailed many missions on this vessel during this time frame. In addition to my previous duties I also started managing the shipboard SM5, SAMM, SHIPCLIP and HAYSTACK programs, performing parts inventory and ordering, consumables ordering, daily fuel reports, end of the month reports and office communications. I also had the opportunity to take this vessel through two shipyard periods. This allowed me to fully comprehend additional vessel systems that are difficult to observe while the vessel is afloat. There are many opportunities that I was able to gain while the ship was in dry dock and I was lucky enough to be able to take full advantage of the situation when it was presented to me.

12 September 2002 - 19 December 2002

First Assistant Engineer aboard the USNS ASSERTIVE for Maersk Lines, Ltd. My duties were much of the same as they were onboard the USNS LOYAL except for the fact that I was the only officer on this vessel except for the Chief Engineer so I was fully responsible for all of the systems onboard the vessel. I was also responsible for the supervision and the training of the two unlicensed personnel working with me.

7 March 2002 - 20 May 2002

First Assistant Engineer aboard the USNS LOYAL for Maersk Lines, Ltd. As first assistant my duties now included parts ordering, creating work lists for the rest of the engineering department, supervising daily jobs as well as overtime jobs, supervising the preventative maintenance program onboard the vessel and parts inventory. I was responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the following systems onboard the vessel: air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, propulsion, main diesel engines, bunkering, ballasting, hydraulics, electrical components and safety, as well as overseeing all other systems and function of the daily operations of the vessel.

20 August 2001 - 17 October 2001

Second Assistant Engineer aboard the USNS ABLE for Maersk Line, Ltd. This was the first SWATH Class vessel that I sailed on. The platform is very different than that of any other vessel so my duties were varied as well. There is no third assistant engineer so my duties included maintenance and repair of the following systems: sewage and sanitary, compressed air, various pumps throughout the vessel, the auxiliary cooling system, the main fresh water evaporators, the fuel oil purifier, and the main diesel generators. I also assisted the First Assistant Engineer in whatever duties were necessary.

15 April 2001 - 13 May 2001

Second Assistant Engineer aboard the USNS BOB HOPE for Maersk Lines, Ltd. This vessel was in port during my time onboard for maintenance

and repairs. My duties included basic maintenance and upkeep of the auxiliary generators, purifiers and compressors onboard the vessel.

26 December 2000 - 8 February 2001

Second Assistant Engineer aboard the M/V LTC JOHN U.D. PAGE for Maresk Lines, Ltd. This vessel was in the shipyard going through an overhaul to be converted into an ammunition vessel. Most of my responsibilities were to get the ship back up and running after a long shutdown period. A lot of basic work was needed just to get this vessel ready to become operational again.

3 August 2000 - 27 September 2000

Second Assistant Engineer aboard the USNS INVINCIBLE for Maersk Lines, Ltd. Duties included most of the same as required of a Third Assistant but more responsibilities onboard such as fueling the vessel, ballasting and deballasting which requires a basic understanding of the

stability of the vessel.

21 July 2000 - 1 August 2000

Served aboard the M/V PFC JAMES ANDERSON, Jr. during a shipyard period.

Was a coordinator between the vessel and the shipyard to provide parts and other necessary assistance. Worked directly with the Port Engineer and the Shipyard Project Manager as well as the ship's crew.

2 January 2000 - 24 February 2000

Watch Training Officer aboard T/S EMPIRE STATE as a watch officer during

the 2000 training cruise for The Massachusetts Maritime Academy - Duties

included watch standing as well as practical and classroom instruction of all cadets. I also stood watched onboard the vessel as a Third Assistant Engineer.

1 August 1997 - 19 August 1999

Third Assistant Engineer aboard the R/V ATLANTIS for Woods Hole

Oceanographic Institution - The ship was approximately three months old when I joined it and part of my responsibilities were to help work out the 'bugs' of a new vessel. Duties included watch standing, preventative maintenance and repair of the following: sewage and sanitary systems, compressed air systems, emergency and rescue equipment, outboard motors, and auxiliary ship systems. Experience in troubleshooting shipboard electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Created and maintained a computer log off all machinery histories aboard the vessel. Created the Hazardous Materials / MSDS program for the engine, deck, galley and science parties. Responsible engineer during the launch and recovery of DSV ALVIN.

Winter 1996

Cadet Engineer aboard the SEALAND EXPRESS as part of training at The

Massachusetts Maritime Academy - Duties included watch standing,

general maintenance and repairs of all ship's equipment.
