• Responsible for all machinery and systems involving propulsion, cargo operations, electrical generation and its service steering, deck machinery and various safety and fire fighting equipment.

• Monitor plant performance and operation while also maintaining records, logs and files in regards to voyages and the company’s Safety Management System and International Safety Management code.

• Instruct engine department personnel as to proper safe operation of equipment.

• Communicate with ship’s Master any condition that could lead to a safety hazard or pollution incident, critical equipment malfunctions to vessel, cargo or crew.

• Directs all preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment and systems. This also includes repair requests, critical equipment notification, correspondence and evaluation.

• Ensure all spaces under authority are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. A proper amount of materials are onboard to ensure safe and efficient operation. This includes maintaining requisitions, that they are received in a timely manner and reflecting materials received/outstanding.
