Chartering Manager / Chartering Broker / Charering Operations

Objective

I am seeking a challenging position where I can utilize my twenty + years experience of Chartering and operations experience. I have Knowledge of multiple industry segments and international operations. Demonstrated ability to generate revenues, control expenses, create efficiencies, utilize technology, and motivate and manage people, improving profitability.

Experience

North American General Agents North East, LLC (Mar 2008- June 2015) I was regional manager Responsible for the total operations including liaising with US Authorities, Vessel  Owners , Managers, Superintendents, Stevedores, Receivers, Brokers, Agents,  Crewing, Captains, Officers, and crew to ensure a successful port call in the tri-state area.

My major responsibilities were:

  • Coordinate discharging schedule with Terminal operator, Vessel Operator, and Charterer / Receivers representatives on all Liner out business and      arrange for the hiring of Stevedore gangs, on liner out cargo, predicated on the outcome of the reading of the Cold Treatment Charts.  On FIOS      business, coordinate arrival and discharge with Receivers and their stevedores  as well as keep vessel operator fully advised.
  • Coordinate with Charterers, Terminal, and Vessel Operator any Overtime that is required for the discharge operation, and authorize accordingly.
  • Coordinate with Charterers, Terminal, and Vessel Operator any shore crane that is required for the discharge operation.
  • When applicable, negotiate with Terminal  for reduced  Stevedore Overtime charges, shore crane cost, and or dockage  
  • Relay / Handle any problems that may arise during discharge operations and solve to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Relay claim Notices and Claims to Owners/ Stevedores as it applies, when applicable and requested, negotiate and settle stevedore damage claims and some Receivers cargo claims.
  • Source and supply spare parts and other items request by Owners / Master/ and Superintendents.

Quinta Raddison Inc. Springfield Pa. I am the Operations / purchasing manager where I am responsible for the total operations including sourcing, purchasing, logistics, warehousing, and office management. My major responsibilities are:

  •  Sourcing products for bid and obtaining best price available.
  •  Preparing and sending out quotes to the Customer 
  • Negotiate final selling price with Customer
  •  Negotiate the purchase price of the product(s) if a sale I made
  • Negotiate and manage the domestic and international transportation for all sales.

Maritime Consultant. Consulted with clients on maritime and logistics projects, ranging from the importation or exportation of fresh produce, frozen meats, various breakbulk /containerized cargoes and bulk commodities. When requested acted as a port captain for clients, overseeing the loading/discharging operations, as well as survey the cargo and stevedoring operations. Also consulted on maritime legal issues as well as handled many of the client's laytime and post fixture work on their charter agreements.

  • A.S.L. International, Inc., Rosemont, PA. Implemented and negotiated joint venture with London-based Shipbrokerage, A.S.L. Shipping and Trading, to create U.S.A. office of A.S.L. International Inc., specializing in Dry Bulk Cargo and Reefer Shipbrokerage. Sales averaged about $4 million annually from 1989-2001. I was responsible for total operations including sales/marketing, finance, regulatory reporting, information technology and planning. Major accomplishments were:
  •  Negotiated freighting contracts (voyage, time charter and COAs for all clients).
  • Successfully handled all operational work related to these contracts, including cargo claims/shortages, laytime calculations for Owners, Suppliers, and Receivers, and assisting in preparation of required documentation, when needed.
  • Rated freighting requests from clients for their commercial and tender business.
  • Prepared ocean freight analysis for clients to assist them in finding optimum source area for their cargo or to ascertain competitors estimated ocean freight component for upcoming tender/business proposal.
  • Guided clients on legal matters that arose from time to time.
  • When requested, acted as a port captain for clients to oversee loading/discharging operations of client's vessels.
  • Oversaw movement of vessels with customs/agents/suppliers/receivers and owners.
  • Consulted with several clients on laytime calculations and demurrage/dispatch settlements when vessels were negotiated through other broker channels.
  • Grew the sales base from nothing to over $4 million.
  • Woodward & Dickerson, Inc., Radnor, PA was an international marketing company dealing in bulk fertilizers, gypsum, clinker, vegetable oil, coal, sulphur and other general commodities. It had over 25 headquarters employees and 9 overseas offices, each with approximately 2-20 employees. Total sales probably exceeded $100 million and had 20-25% annual growth. From 1982-89, I was Chartering Manager responsible for the freight aspects of all trades on a global basis, including rating, negotiation of contracts, vessel management, coordination with suppliers/receivers, vessel agents and vessel owners, and cargo load/discharge operations. Key achievements were:
  • Successfully managed and oversaw all chartering operations done by main and branch offices.
  • Negotiated and managed all voyage charters, time charters and their operational aspects.
  • Rated all possible cargo movements, for either single movement, several (COA) or for tender business.
  • Successfully handled all "crises", minimizing possible losses and insuring shipment.
  • Oversaw loading and discharging operations at world wide ports to ensure contract performance as well maintain relationships with Owners, Suppliers, Receivers and agents.
  • Designed and implemented computer programs for laytime calculations, voyage estimating, vessel log and container stowage.
  • Managed and oversaw all laytime calculations where unseen demurrage/dispatch income would be over $100 thousand.
  • Created and implemented an accounting report facilitating budgeting and estimating the demurrage despatch for each transaction.
  • Responsible or directly involved with the planning and implementation of transportation projects, ranging from bagging and transshipment of bulk commodities, to the transportation, warehousing and on forwarding of frozen meats, fresh eggs, and fruits.

From 1981-82, I was Assistant Chartering Manager at Woodward & Dickerson, Inc. responsible for vessel management, coordination with suppliers/receivers, vessel agents and vessel owners, and cargo load/dispatch, as well as final freight settlement, including demurrage/dispatch. I also assisted in research for all major projects. Accomplishments included:

From 1980-81, I was Assistant Traffic Manager at Woodward & Dickerson, Inc. responsible for supporting traders, performing all import/export documentation for each shipment (letters of credit, invoicing, export declaration, certificates of origin, customs clearance, etc.) and obtaining bulk rates for tenders or offers.

Ford Aerospace & Communications Corp., Lansdale, PA is a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. From 1978-80, I was Foreign Traffic Analyst responsible for the transportation and importation of Ford's automobile accessories assembled in Brazil, including related liner, air freight, air charter, customs entry and custom house broker requirements. Managed and maintained F.A.C.C. leased container fleet and chassis between USA and Brazil facilities.

Bachelor of Science, Business Administration with a major in logistics and minor in quantitative business analysis from Penn State University in 1976.
