Skils

The better part of my career as a licensed officer has been spent in Alaskan waters, the most treacherous in the world. I’ve over 1000 transits of The Inside Passage to Alaska and well over 200 transits of the Gulf of Alaska. I am an expert ship handler under extreme weather conditions and an expert pilot in treacherous near shore waters and voyage planner over non standard routes and extended expeditions. I have also worked as a Marine Surveyor and Marine Incident Investigator and Expert Witness on behalf of Attorneys for plaintiffs and defendants, involved in admiralty Litigation over the last 30 years, when not serving aboard ships.

I am especially skilled in the technical aspects of vessel management and operations, prioritization of work schedules and regulatory compliance, having overseen shipyard projects on my own vessels and on large inspected passenger vessels. As a senior deck officer I supervised Crew Training in such areas as Search and rescue, Oil Spill Prevention and Abatement protocols, Abandon ship, Fire and Emergency, Medivac procedures and other drill preparations as specified in the ship’s SMS manual.

My years of experience as a senior ship’s officer, make me conversant with all aspects of ship management from provisioning to inventory control and planning shipyard and underway projects. Additionally my supervisory skills relating to direct supervision of crews and crew training are an added plus. These skills plus many years experience as a marine surveyor and investigator, assessing condition and prioritizing maintenance projects and work schedules accordingly would allow me to integrate quickly with your organization.

I am particularly skilled in ship handling, voyage planning for non-standard routes and near-shore piloting.
