July 2002-August 2003 Intrepid Ship Management/MTC/Crowley Long Beach, CA

Captain of the ATB “Ocean Reliance/550-3, this vessel specializes in the transportation of refined petroleum products on the West coast of the United States. Unique features of the vessel include the Intercontinental Coupler system, Inert Gas system, Closed Gauging, OPA 90 Double Hull Construction, built to cross the Columbia River Bar at “close out” conditions. This vessel has gone through the “Sire Vetting” process required by the customer BP USA and Chevron USA. I was present for both of these inspections and the vessel satisfied all of the customer’s expectations.

October 1991-July 2002 Morania Oil Tanker Corp/Penn Maritime Inc. Staten Island, NY

Captain

11 years service with the leader in transportation of heated petroleum products. Originally employed as Mate, I quickly proved my vessel handling skills and moved up to Captain in 1993. Operating Tugs from 2,300hp to 7,000hp and handling tank barges from 20,000Bbls to 155,000Bbls. This also included the ATB “Eliza/Atlantic” a 578’ x 74’ Articulated Tug and Barge utilizing the Intercontinental Coupler system. This vessel carried 115,000Bbls of Asphalt with a draft of 29’06”. Originally the area of operation was primarily the North East, New York Harbor, Delaware River, Boston, and Portland. The company then expanded its operation to include the entire Eastern Seaboard, from the Canadian Border to the Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean. During my employment with Morania and Penn Maritime I was present for Vetting inspections by Exxon Corp. and Chevron USA on numerous occasions. The vessels always satisfied the customer’s requirements.



1990-1991 Jay Ray McDermott Offshore Construction Morgan City, LA

Captain

Employed as a First Class Anchor Tug Captain for support of oil field development in the Gulf of Mexico. These tugs ranged in horse power from 5,600hp to 7,200hp. The barges towed were from 12,000DWT to 33,000DWT.The operating area was primarily the Gulf of Mexico. There were also rig moves down to Mexico and Towing of equipment to Florida and Long Island Sound NY.



1987-1990 Perry Oceanographic/Caribbean Marine Research Center West Palm Beach, FL

Served aboard the Government research vessel “J.W.Powell” as master. This vessel was on charter from the US Government USGS and supported the studies of marine life. Some of this work was classified and I was required to attain a high level security clearance while stationed at AUTEC on Andros Island Bahamas, working alongside the American and British Navy. This vessel’s area of operation was through out the Caribbean, Eastern seaboard of the US, including some time in the Gulf of Mexico.



1986-1987 Palm Beach Marine Institute West Palm Beach, FL

Director of Operations

Originally employed as the seamanship instructor I was quickly promoted to head the whole operation. This facility was for the rehabilitation of youthful offenders. It was, and is, the best program of its type in the country. With a 75% recidivism rate it was good to know you made a difference in these teen’s lives. It was set in a marine environment with the focus on the students getting their High School Diploma and making restitution to their victims.



1980-1986 Hvide Shipping/Port Everglades Towing Fort Lauderdale, FL

AB/Mate

Worked aboard the harbor tugs of Port Everglades Towing with 1 trip aboard the ITB “Oxy Trader”, and 1 year aboard the ITB “Sea Bulk Challenger” as AB. I was introduced the handling characteristics of the three harbor tugs Hvide had working the port, two of which were single screw boats. I quickly moved up and attained my 500 ton Freight and Towing license. I was moved into the position of night mate where I ran the tug at night while the captain was off watch. This was all ship docking work with the boats and crews working 24 shifts. While aboard the ITB’s I attained my tanker man’s ticket which is now my PIC D/L.
