Captain, mate

Objective

I feel qualified for a number of jobs in the industry, but I would like to find something that offers equal time on and off, and that I enjoy enough to continue doing for the next several years.

Experience

After my Army discharge in 1968, I got my first license (100 GT Ocean Operator) in 1969. From 1969-1980, I operated fishing boats out of several ports from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay.

From 1980-1985, I ran supply boats out of the U.S. Gulf Coast, Mexico, and Brazil. I gradually worked my license up to Master, 1000GT Ocean Freight and Towing.

From 1986-1996, I worked as both a Port Captain and OUTV with Crowley Maritime, and OUTV with A.H. Powers and Manson Construction. Most of my work was in Puget Sound, but I also spent several months in Alaska, and Coos Bay, Oregon; as well as some trips to and from various West Coast and Alaskan ports.

From 1996-2007, I worked as a captain and mate on dive boats operating in the Gulf of Mexico. I also spent some time in the same capacity on supply boats. From 2007 to the present, I have worked as a mate on tugs towing rigs in the Gulf. Companies I worked for were Stolt Offshore (AOD), Cal Dive, Torch, Trico, and Chet Morrison Contractors. I'm omitting my present employer.

Education

Graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic in Long Beach, Calif. in 1962. Some college credits from Cal State Univ., Long Beach, sandwiched around my military service (drafted 7/19/66, hon. discharge, 7/18/68) in which I was trained as a LARC mechanic>

Certification

Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of Not More Than 1600 Gross Registered Tons (Domestic Tonnage), 3000 Gross Tons (ITC Tonnage) Upon Oceans; Radar Observer (Unlimited); Also, Master of Towing Vessels Upon Oceans and Western Rivers.

ARPA, GMDSS, STCW 95, Marine Firefighting, AB Unlimited, TWIC applied for and paid for, but not yet received, Current Drivers License and Passport.

Skils

Experience handling all types of vessels, from single-engine/direct-reversible to twin engine with multiple thrusters.

I keep a car locally, so I'm not dependent on anyone else for my transportation needs. I've been handling all of my transportation costs, but I won't refuse help in this regard if it is offered.
