Navigate the tug through the Inter-Coastal Waterway, James River, and Norfolk Harbor with the use of RADAR, GPS, ECDIS, MAGNETIC COMPASS, DEPTH SOUNDER, and all other navigational equipment.

Duties: Boat Captain, Operation and General Manager of an oil supply company that oversees the operation and distribution of all major oil company's products to ships in New York Harbor. Monitor cargo movements, loading and stowage. Monitored schedules and cargo status to insure proper and timely deliveries of product. Distributed workload, among captains and crew, with stringent time restraints for ships arriving into port. Coordinate and conduct liaison visits with oil companies, refineries, ship's agents and vessels. Responsible for the recruiting, screening and hiring of all new employees. Reviewed, renewed and upgraded all employee’s U.S. Coast Guard documentation, I.A.W. CFR46, Parts 1 thru 40, subchapter B. Wrote, developed and ensured safety and training procedures so that they are in compliance with company polices. Instruct administrative employees with specific tasks, verbal and written. Resolve employee issues, complaints and any union issues, Local 333. Oversaw the maintenance and safety of three U.S.C.G. inspected motorized tankers, according to U.S.C.G. regulations, including yearly inspections and dry dock periods.

Duties: Vessel Master responsible for crewmembers and the safe and economic operation of 65-275 foot vessels. Supervised the deck and engine departments to include training, safety, maintenance and vessel procurement. Maintained work schedules, performance and efficiency reports for crew on a continual basis to develop service members professionally and personally. Safely operated and navigated vessels according to U.S. Army and U.S.C.G. regulations without mishap to vessels or crews. Majority of vessel cruises where on the Inter-coastal Waterway (I.C.W.) and the East Coast from Maine the Florida. Stood numerous bridge watches utilizing all bridge resources. This includes assignment of watch personnel and their duties, Radar, ARPA, GPS, sexton, radios, magnetic and gyro compasses. Administratively maintained the vessel's log and procurement accounts, supplies, crew counseling, job assignments and licensing. Continually updating and developing maintenance and schedules for vessel equipment and machinery, to include writing job specifications for the ships' biennial shipyard period.

08/1980-08/1981, NCOIC/Instructor at the 7th Group Marine Academy, Fort Eustis, VA. Instructed Rules of the Road, Piloting Techniques, Navigational Math and General Seamanship subjects for U.S. Army Marine personnel to receive their B20, 30 and 40 licenses. Increased the passing rate from 73% to 90% during my tenure.
