Experience
CRAFTMASTER
Qualified as an underway boat captain of U.S. Navy small vessels and support crafts.
Prepared nautical charts and underway briefings, performed complex, highly technical maneuvers in adverse weather conditions.
Conducted 250 mishap free personnel and logistic transfer evolutions in personnel transfer craft Olympic Venture and a 42 foot personnel transfer boat facilitating the transfer of 4,876 personnel including 12 humanitarian missions, 10 medical evacuations and 180 tons of cargo in support of Pacific Fleet submarine operations in the Strait of Juan De Fuca.
Spent over 700 hours instructing crew members in safe navigation, line handling, and deck operations in support of submarine operations.
SMALL CRAFT OPERATOR/COXSWAIN
Instrumental in the safe and successful installation of five SX 200 cable runs totaling over 250,000 feet at Nanoose Torpedo Range.
Key player in the installation and surveys of Jervis Inlet test range, British Columbia, Canada, laying over 300,000 yards of cable.
Directly responsible for the training of 30 personnel in the operation of the craft and barge movements.
Vessel Boarding Search and Seizure (VBSS) Boat Coxswain for 20+ boarding's.
Davit Captain for 250 small boat davit operations.
Assigned to Captains Gig for overseas in port visits.
Steered vessel utilizing navigational devices such as compasses and navigational aides i.e.: lighthouses and buoys to determine ships position.
DECK SUPERVISOR
Directed 30-50 personnel in all phases of deck operations.
Managed and maintained the deck department Material, Maintenance & Management System (3M).
Performed counseling and delivered feedback on an ongoing basis to deck personnel, monitored for improvements, provided additional input, guidance and training as needed to achieve desired results.
Supervised deck crew members in the repair or replacement of defective gear and equipment.
Member of the Damage Control Training Team (DCTT).
Member of the Ships Training Team (STT).
RIG CAPTAIN
Directed 30-50 deck personnel in rigging cargo handling equipment to replenish at sea, refuel at sea, and transfer personnel at sea via personnel highline transfer.
Supervised anchoring the ship and mooring to buoy as well as rigging to tow and be towed by another vessel.
Selected the proper cables, pulleys and winches according to load weights and sizes.
Inspected the equipment, structures and materials to identify any possible defects before using them.
Hoisted and moved loads while ensuring the safety of workers and materials.
DECKHAND
Aboard a 73 foot Torpedo Retriever and 128 foot Torpedo Weapons Retriever in Support of Trident Submarine Operations.
Prepared and applied primers and paint to metal and wood surfaces.
Stood bridge watch on U.S. Naval Ships as Helmsman and Lookout.
Planned and executed the removal and replacement of over 7,500 square feet of damaged and worn non skid decking material.
Proficient in the use of pneumatic tools i.e.: deck crawler, needle gun, sander, grinders.
Proficient in the use of tools of the trade i.e.: marlinspike, knives, pliers, wrenches and various power tools.
Rigged/Unrigged for man overboard recovery.
Raised/lowered small boats/landing crafts on davits.
Operated hydraulic capstans and hydraulic windlasses.
Maintained, repaired and overhauled block and tackle and shipboard rigging.
Overhauled and maintained anchors, chains, cables, connecting links and shackles.
Damage Control and Advanced Damage control Qualified.
Held the position of Damage Control Petty Officer (DCPO).
Performed maintenance on all Deck Department's Damage Control and 3M gear and equipment.
Held the positions of Investigator, Nozzleman, Hoseman and Plugman in the firefighting party.
LINE HANDLER/MOORING
Assisted in the safe and secure moorage of all types of vessel and barges.
Fabricated, installed, maintained and repaired mooring lines.
Secured anchors.
Applied whipping to line, made splices in line (eye splice, short, long, back)
Coiled, faked, flemished down lines.
Secured lines and wires to h-bitts, bitts, cleats, and bollards.
Inspected lines and wires for deterioration.
Spliced lines (Double Braided, Kevlar, 3-strand and nylon)
Trained 50 deck personnel in the splicing of various types of synthetic and natural fiber line constructing rope fenders and tying essential knots that are used on a daily basis.
Prepared ground tackle for mooring to a buoy and anchoring.
