Experience
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
COAST GUARD STATION - Dauphin Island, AL Boat Coxswain 2nd Class (E-5) 2004 - Present
• Qualified as a boat Coxswain, in charge of the boat, its mission, and its crew. Defended US waters up to 25 miles offshore, retrieving stranded boats and protected boat passengers with an average of one rescue mission each day of duty. Served as an officer on duty for 10 to 25 fellow Coast Guardsmen.
• Gained strong legal understanding and enforcement knowledge through a two-month course at the Coast Guard Maritime Law Enforcement Academy in Charleston, South Carolina. Satisfied Coxswain certification requirements for navigation, seamanship, maturity, judgment, attitude and professionalism.
• Capitalized on “Cop School” training to take on the high risk and high interest issue of the being a lead officer for vessel boarding teams of 10 to 12 fellow Coast Guard colleagues to board huge freighters with multinational crews, and cargo often worth more than $100 million.
COAST GUARD STATION - South Padre Island, TX Boatswain Mate 3rd Class (E-4) 2003 - 2004
• Achieved leadership position and earned commendation letters operating in charge of boats, a first step toward Coast Guard command position as a First Class Petty Officer or chief Petty Officer.
• Ran a series of small boats getting team members to work on navigation aids following hurricanes.
• Maintained decorum and safety among younger vacationers in a college spring break community.
COAST GUARD STATION - South Padre Island, TX Seaman (E-3) 2001 - 2002
• Enhanced experiences in search and rescue, one of the highest Coast Guard responsibilities.
• Earned promotion to Seaman and continued law-enforcement and illegal alien introduction.
• Strengthened skills and efficiencies and maintaining maritime safety for the 8th Navigation Team.
COAST GUARD STATION - South Padre Island, TX Seaman Apprentice (E-2) 2000 - 2001
• Joined first Coast Guard boat crew in a high law enforcement market in Southeast Texas.
• Focused duties primarily on law enforcement and interception of illegal migrant workers.
• Provided safety fixing range towers, working on buoys, and setting day beacons for navigation aids.
