To Whom It May Concern: Please be advised that most of my working career has been in manufacturing and the sales of cutting tools throughout the US. I am a Journeyman Machinist by trade and was very successful in this industry for many years while always owning and operating large personal boats. In 2000 I purchased a 42’ motor yacht that I later put into commercial service performing event type cruises. Due to financial complications not related to this business I did resort to representing tooling manufactures again for approximately eighteen months in ’06 and ’07.

I am fifty years of age and in excellent health. My ability to have positive, friendly, and effective communications with has been the underlying reason for my many successes in machining and manufacturing businesses. I am currently looking to be employed as a Boat Captain by a reputable company and am confident that I would be an outstanding employee for any company operating commercial vessels.

Listed below is a brief outline of my employment history in this industry:

March ’08 to Present: I have been employed by Port Ship Services in Lutcher, LA. My responsibilities have been to operate 30 to 70 ton industrial crew boats and store boats on the Mississippi River.

I worked for Elevating Boats, Inc in Braithwaite, LA from 5/14/04 to 11/11/04. I spent most of my time on the "Gene Buras" and the "Allen Benoit". While with this company I was working as a captain in training / deck hand while awaiting my sea time to upgrade my license to Masters "Near Coastal".

After leaving Elevating Boats, Inc - (EBI) I went to work for Crescent Ship Service in New Orleans, LA running 45' crew boats back and forth to the many ships anchored along the Mississippi and left shortly before Katrina hit.

Below is an outline of the many functions I performed on my personal motor yacht during the two years I had it operating in commercial service in Eastern North Carolina. I'm also very experienced in machining, welding, metal fabrication, and diesel engine repair. Please keep in mind that while working offshore on Jack-Up boats and the Crew boats in the Mississippi most of the major repairs were handled by the company's port mechanics. However, I was responsible for always keeping an eye on engine conditions, fluid levels, electronics, etc.

(OUTLINE OF WORK PERFOMED ON PERSONAL VESSEL)

(1) Daily routine checks and services on fluid levels, belts, hoses, etc.

(a) This was done quickly while daily going into the engine room to bleed any possible water from the generator and engine fuel lines.

(2) Completely redid all appointments including window treatments, and outside upholstery and biminis. Stripped all wood work and applied new varnish.

(3) New bottom coating while in dry dock.

(a) I also frequently swam in the water to check for obstruction in props, soft brush bottom, and wire brush barnacles off of raw water intakes.

(4) Electrical:

(a) Worked with both AC and DC power while reading electrical drawings, (schematics), and using voltage meters.

(b) Replaced faulty gauges on both upper and lower instrument panels and fixed many bad connections.

(c) Replaced bad relay in diesel "Onan" generator.

(d) Put new high temperature sensors in engines and wired them directly to new fog horns on outside of the vessel, as opposed to the existing low volume buzzers in the lower helm.

(e) Added additional electronics. IE, lower helm GPS, sound system, etc.

(f ) Hard wired DC covered outlet from engine room to fly bridge.

(5) Mechanical:

(a) Adjusted throttle linkage, performed oil changes, changed hoses, belts, fuel filters, replaced bilges, glow plugs, and pulled injectors off of engine for inspection.

(b) Replaced impellers to raw water pumps and rebuilt one fresh water pump on starboard engine.

(c) Readjusted engine valve clearances and removed a heat exchanger that I was able to have repaired at a local radiator shop.

(d) Replaced packing in packing glands on prop shafts, and set drip.

(e) Manufactured my own new prop shaft and coupling.

(f ) Pulled one transmission completely out of boat and then reinstalled with new anchor bolts and shimmed to properly align with engine using dial indicators.

(g) Pulled props on three occasions to re-pitch for better performance.

(h) Repaired leaky hatches and replaced complete head in guest bath quarters....That was fun!

Thank you for your consideration of my experience. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 513 560-6885.
