Coordinate vessel maintenance actions for all deck machinery with the Chief Engineer, by surveying the vessel to ensure it complies with Army Watercraft regulations as outlined by Department of the Army, Coast Guard, and ABS regulation. Develop a plan and required corrective action to be taken by organic matinance support personal or the necessary action need to implement the required correction through a contracted source, calculating man-hours needed, cost overhead and scope of the contract. Monitor and inspect the repair of the vessel in accordance with the developed maintenance plan to ensure the corrective action was taken and make changes as needed to ensure the highest level of maintenance is received.
Evaluate vessel navigation communication and satellite communication equipment to evaluate operational readiness and determine maintenance and repair requirements.
Responsible for navigation, passenger movements, firefighting/damage control, marlinespike seamanship, vessel administration and leadership, High Speed Craft navigation and quartermaster duties, vessel handling/seamanship, marine deck operations, and maritime regulations.

Surface Rescue Swimmer/Able Seaman
From the water, evaluates the condition of survivors and provides immediate medical assistance and ensures their successful recovery by the rescue platform.
Perform triage on survivors and transfer patients to the Hospital Deck, report their observations and actions, and provide additional emergency treatment by additional care as needed. May have to act as an independent corpsman under direction of the Ships Master to treat the patient and prepare them for transfer to a medical facility when the vessel comes into range for helicopter transport.
Perform routine inspection of the vessel to ensure seaworthiness and compliance with DOD, IMO and SOLAS regulations, recommend corrective actions to be taken to correct deficiencies, and verify the correction to ensure quality control.
