Marine Supervisor: My duties were to organize and oversee the cargo operations of vessels calling at the Wando Terminal, liazon between ship and shore, enforce safety regulations defined by OSHA and APMT and ensure quality of service to our customers. On any given day, I was directly managing up to 100+ personnel from my company, The ILA and the SCSPA. The job was a fast paced, hazardous, heavy industrial, long hours and very demanding and I thrived at it. When negotiations between Maersk and the SCSPA broke down in 2008 and Maersk downsized its operations here, APMT lost 75% of its business and my position, along with several others, went as well.
1988-2004 US Merchant Mariner, Various Locations and Vessels Worldwide
In the Gulf of Mexico, I was Lead AB aboard the MV Harvey Provider responsible for the deck cargo operations ashore and at sea serving the oil platforms and production rigs. Duties were, again, hazardous, heavy, long hours and extremely demanding and I excelled in them. I left the sea to stay ashore with family and accept the job with APMT.
EDUCATION:
Two years of College at The College of Charleston, prerequisites and general curriculum.
One year at SHL School of Seamanship, upgrades, shipping and related skills.
Three months at Trident Technical College, computers.
