Experience


Arco Marine, Inc. December 1979 – February 1983



Served as Able Seaman on crude oil tankers and product tanker in west coast, east coast and gulf coast ports including the Mississippi River. Accumulated 523 days deck experience and held A.B., Special endorsement. Served on various tankers from the 30,000 DWT Endeavor, 70,00 DWT (Sag River and Prudhoe Bay), 120,000 DWT (Juneau and Anchorage) to the 188,000 DWT ARCO Alaska. Also received experience on the Training Ship Golden Bear while studying at California Maritime Academy.



Responsibilities included:



· Docking/mooring/undocking procedures including adjusting mooring lines for tides and draft during loading and unloading;

· Standing deck watch assisting with loading and discharging of cargo;

· Connecting and disconnecting manifolds;

· Standing watch as bow lookout; and watch on the bridge steering the vessel;

· Performing deck maintenance including working aloft in bosun’s chair, chipping painting, equip. maintenance;

· Deploying and securing Jacob’s ladder;

· Operating manual valves (Arco Endeavor all manual valving);

· Faking lines in preparation for docking and stowing of lines at departure;

· Securing mooring lines and assisting in handling the tug lines;

· Operating mechanical winches;

· Assisting with tank washing and cleaning.

Lead the civil engineering organization from the first initial contact with the client/owner through the completion of the project. Develop the operational budget for the company and manage all aspects of the business to ensure that budgets and timelines are met. Ensure that the staff and the company have the right resources to accomplish the project. Our organization is highly active in working with local municipalities to develop business plans that meet the growing needs of our communities. The design activities include traffic planning, water management (potable, non potable, waste water and storm), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, Erosion Control Plans, Water Quality Management Plans, drainage, utilities and grading. In working with our clients, the key focus is to ensure that all of our interactions exceed the needs of the customer. Lead a team of 12 employees ranging from administrative to professional staff for the civil engineering department. This included developing and managing the expense budget along with developing the staffing requirements for the department. Lead the bi-weekly project management update to ensure all projects were being executed on time. As a staff member, I was integral in setting the direction for the company as well as my department. I supervised the management of the individual project timelines and ensured accurate accrual of charges and time to each project. As Principal Engineer, I designed and managed a variety of projects specializing in water infrastructure. I provided mentorship to the department to ensure that solid fundamentals were used and that the company was always utilizing best practices. Additionally, I provided plan check services to several municipalities.

Senior Engineer Feb 1999 - Feb 2001

Responsibilities included management of the Engineering Departments’ full time staff of 5 employees and daily operation of the Department (personnel and administrative). Responsible for developing Engineering budget and Capital Improvement Program, attending and participating in various committee meetings, City Council meetings, intergovernmental meetings and reporting to the City Engineer and City Manager. Other daily functions included plan check, in-house sewer and street design, development review, Tract and Parcel Map review, review hydrology studies, contract administration, oversee preparation of contract documents and specifications, preparation of RFQ’s/RFP’s for various professional services, federal aid project submittals for funding, grant application preparation and composing staff reports and resolutions.
