200 ton 3rd Mate / 100 ton captain

Objective


Would love to take my skills to the next level by becoming a mate on board a vessel and teaching children to sail.


Experience


I was an historic interpreter for 3 years, teaching people of all ages about the history and skill of sailing a square rig vessel. I then went to improve my skills at Maine Maritime Academy were I received my 200 ton mate’s license in 2010. Part of the course at the academy is that one must spend a summer on a ship to receive sea time. It 2009 I was a deck hand on the Schooner Bowdoin and then an OS on the Bridge Niagara.


Education


200 ton mate license with a 2 year degree


Certification


AB, Life boatman, firefighting, Scuba diving, diesel knowledge, black belt, CPR and First Aid and Mates license


Skils


I have basics skills in knots tying and spicing. Love to teach small kids. Have taken firefighting class, electrical and diesel class, small craft construction were one learns of the structure of a boat. I have in addition taken class on stability and cargo handling. Also I have done class on scuba diving and first aid.
