1st class step 5 Outside Machinist



• Ran a seven man crew on msc navy ships

• Lead a crew on many engine jobs including complete overhauling (mains and piston, cam timing and timing the fuel systems)

• Lead a crew on the Army Corp. dredge boats Wheeler and McFarlane. Have worked on the Weeks dredge boats and barges

• Lead a crew working on Army landing crafts Is3, Is4, and Is6 and changed all the main engines

• Worked on several FMS Work transfers of Navy DDG Class ships to Taiwan Navy. These transfers were off of Kid class DDG class ships. Worked on the loading systems of the 5” gun and elevator for the ammo. Have worked on hydraulic rams and elevators for several MSC ships.

• Worked on some electric motors on fuel pumps on jp5 fuel transfer pumps (480, 220, and 110) and some 3 phase motors. Worked on some limit switches on valves on sea side discharge systems.

• Have aligned fuel oil transfer pumps: jp5 transfer pumps, heavy oil transfer pumps, main saltwater pumps, fire main pumps, and cooling water pumps.

• Have used laser alignment but, mostly used dial indicator to align pumps.

• Know how to set soft foot on main engines and reduction as well as pumps.

• Worked on the LSD Oak Hill’s Fairbanks and Morris opposed piston generator engines.

• Disassembled those engines.

• Performed mic and reading on cranks and piston rods.

• Installed new liners, rings, and pistons.

• Reassembled engines.

• Set fuel timing and both upper and lower harmonic balance.

• Performed Navy runout of 20-48 hours with load test.
