Charter Vessel Captain
• Owner/Operator of a fishing charter service in Southeast Alaska during the summer tourist season. I provide salmon and halibut fishing charters and interactive Nature Tours. Research Vessel Captain July 2006 to March 2007
• Commanded the 50 meter, 474 ITC ton Oceanographic Research Vessel “JW Powell” on the West coast of Africa. The vessel engages in ocean bottom studies for oil companies, as well as other scientific studies for similar agencies and industries. I was responsible for permits, paper work and inter-agency communications when this vessel transited between ports in the six West African nations we visited in my nine month tenure as Captain.
• Over saw the daily operations of the vessel and it’s readiness to execute the current scientific study, as well as keeping the vessel up to date with current safety regulations.
• Managed a 12 man crew during stand down time when shipboard maintenance is underway. I also interviewed, hired and trained new crew members and supervised a dry dock re-fit on Snake Island in Lagos, Nigeria
• Purchased ship stores, supplies and contract labor from local markets and suppliers.
• Operated the vessel during a 12 hour shift during acquisition periods, running grid- line patterns, holding station and other maneuvers necessary for data collection.

• Commanded 15 meter 41 ton tug vessel “Apollo” which engaged in the transportation of dock building supplies and crane barges. As well as vessel assistance and moorage.
• Executed daily operations of vessel start up and readiness.
• Interviewed, hired and trained crew.
• Successfully managed a six person crew during many types of on-water construction. Towing and Slip docking maneuvers and large vessel movements.
• Purchased supplies and equipment for vessel, such as ship stores, fuel, webbing, rope and cable.

• I crewed on the 30 meter 176 GRT Ocean going tug vessel “Calusa Coast” and Allied barge ATC 350 as a Mate and AB. My duties consisted of operation of the bulk barge system. I also worked in all capacities aboard the tug as well as taking a wheel watch and engine room duties. This tug and barge took DAP to the Mississippi, grain to Peru and Guatemala, as well as scrap metal and sugar to ports along the Eastern Seaboard and the Gulf of Mexico.
